Completely sealed transaxle. I've read many responses to similar-sounding issues, and will have my buddy look for and check the idler pulley and idler pulley spring. Meantime, do you have generic instructions for adding oil to the transaxle? The tractor behaves as if that's what it needs. Engine runs well without speed variation.
You have to login before leaving comment. Whining may be oil or even belts slipping Sorry I cant be of more help. Most of the good ones have a little cap in which you can add more oil if needed. But yet I have been around some that have had a bad pump which caused a whining sound.
But yes check the idlers. Idlers give off a whining sound when the bearings are going in them. Good Luck. Mine has two belts. I never really liked this set up but it works on the level terrain i live on now. All i can say is make sure both belts are in place and that the idler pulleys are doing there job. I seriosly doubt that it has anything to do with the rear end but with the belts and pulleys.

This is what mine was doing and kept getting worse. Finally got where for it to pull itself it would be going too fast to mow efficiently. Purchased a belt from local co-op the one they said went on it and didnt help a bit. Left the mower sitting all that year and decided to try it again this year, but I ordered both the belts online using the part numbers from MDT.
As I was puting them on I noticed my new belts were much wider than the one I bought locally. One of the belts I had put on by the co-op a year before I started having the puttling problem. Both belts combined being too narrow made it where the one pulley wouldnt spread apart correctly so it would get grip to make it pull.
