In a push to improve public health, the EU constantly imposes stricter emissions regulations on vehicle manufacturers. These force car makers to produce cleaner vehicles, a large part of which car be achieved by designing engines petrol and diesel which burn more cleanly.

The latest Euro VI emissions standards require diesel engines sold from September onwards to emit 55 per cent fewer Nitrogen Oxides NOx than allowed under the current regs. The new model is set to debut in the Transit van where it replaces the outgoing 2.

The noise and heat that comes from an engine? Ford has taken a variety of steps with the EcoBlue design to ensure as much fuel is converted into useful energy as possible. A new fuel injection system delivers an incredibly precise amount of diesel when required, which combined with an optimised air intake system results in an ideal mix of fuel and air at all times.

The result? The EcoBlue engine is 13 per cent more efficient than the unit it replaces. An updated exhaust system design helps to cool gases leaving the engine, and reduces the quantity of harmful emissions including CO2 and NOx that exit the tailpipe. By wasting less energy, more power can be transferred to the road for every litre of diesel put in the tank. Depending on how its tuned, the new 2. A new turbocharger, made from an alloy used in the construction of rocket engines inconel, for the curiouscan spin much faster than before, which in turn improves low-down torque.

The new engine is quieter, too. Improved seals help to trap noise within the engine block, and other steps taken to reduce vibration help contribute to a four decibel drop in engine noise at idle. Further down the line, Ford has confirmed that a smaller 1.

The "Engine System Fault" message on the dashboard after a few moments running was the initial indication of a problem.

I've now added approx. I have a "Ford-VCM-OBD" interface and software Bought from the web which allegedly clears the codes and re-reads them, however I cannot seem to clear the codes and the dashboard message.

Previously, when the code first appeared I was able to clear it, for a few days. I've tried the "Fuel flap" method, of which there is much talk difficult to find on the forums but that hasn't done the trick either. Check the status of the flap sensor, that's working fine. I can reset the FACM counter for you if you can get the car to me. If you are struggling to get it sorted send me a PM I'm not far from J Not sure what the software you have is able to do but it clears codes but doesn't have the option to reset the counter so the code will keep coming back.

Tank capacity should be 1. Meant to reply to this earlier but it was good to meet you the other week, glad I could help solve the issue for you by resetting the FACM counter. I assume it has been OK since? This post has been helpful to me. I've resently had the 'Engine Malfunction' light appear and the EML with the P code fuel additive control module and sure enough on inspection I've found my Eloys tank to be empty!

I've refilled it and reset the EML but the Engine Malfuntion light and bleeper still operate so think I will try my skills next with the 'Forscan' software. I've just ordered the cable off ebay. I'm hoping its going to be easy and stright forward! I'll keep you posted. Aftermarket PAT fluid from ebay or amazon comes in 1 litre bottles. Beware of the filling kit though, I got sent the wrong one. Thank you. I have refilled the additive tank last year and later on, cleaned the DPF.

Ford Kuga ST-Line 2019 Review

Today, after I have puted fuel in the tank, the engine malfunction alert happened and errors that I have low additive level. Strange thing, before I have filled the additive tank, I had no errors at all and I drove about km. Now, after the refill, I drove about 10 km. I used the Forscan to "refill" tank and the engine malfunction disappeared, subsequently the errors too.

It is possible I have used or loosed all the adidive? It is a way to see if something is wrong with the tank or if I have additive left? You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account.

Ford Focus Club Search In.Got a question about buying, owning or running your car during the coronavirus crisis? The permissible level of pollutants that new cars can emit has been reduced significantly in the past couple of years. Car makers have found two ways of meeting these standards: selective catalytic reduction and exhaust gas recirculation.

The second uses a recirculation system to replace some of the exhaust gas with intake air to reduce the amount of nitrogen that can be turned into NOx. AdBlue is the trade name for a type of diesel exhaust fluid. Many diesel cars registered after September use AdBlue to reduce emissions.

The amount of AdBlue used depends on the type of driving being done and the number of miles covered. Audi says its A4 saloon has a litre AdBlue tank that gives it a range of approximately miles between top-ups. Most AdBlue tank filler spouts are situated next to the diesel filler, and they usually have a blue cap.

Other common places for fillers include the boot and spare wheel well. Car accessory shops and fuel stations sell litre and litre containers of AdBlue. You can also buy it online, while some petrol stations sell it at the pumps, too. If you ignore the warning and carry on driving the car until the AdBlue runs out, the car's emissions and performance will be adversely affected.

The AA estimates that it dealt with around 20, AdBlue-related breakdowns in Don't start the engine; call your dealer or breakdown service provider to get the tank drained. If you start the engine, you could damage the selective catalytic reduction and AdBlue injection systems and they may then have to be replaced. Ford - Kuga

About What Car?Words by: Pete Tullin. Additional words by: Ivan Aistrop. Ford is renowned for producing some of the finest-driving cars of their type, and when compared with other compact SUVs, the Kuga is no different. It does a great job of treading the fine line between comfort and engagement, especially when specified on the ST-Line chassis, maing it the perfect tool for even the bleakest Monday morning school run.

By and large, fuel economy and CO2 emissions are pretty competitive as well, although some rivals - like the Nissan Qashqai - are considerably cleaner. The car features lots of parts carried over from countless other Ford models, so they are tried and tested. Although the back seats fold down smartly enough to allow you to extend the load area, you are left with a slightly sloped load floor when they are folded, which only gets steeper in the Vignale models thanks to the extra padding stuffed into their leather seats.

Some versions get a powered tailgate, which will no doubt come in handy if you regularly struggle with arms full of shopping and fractious toddlers. The view over the bonnet is a bonus, although the chunky windscreen-pillar mounted mirrors do tend to obscure traffic approaching from the right, so an extra degree of care is required when arriving at roundabouts. Equally, a small rear screen and large rear pillars tend to make reverse parking a little tricky.

That said, if a car handles, responds and engages with the driver, then it is all the safer for it. In this respect, the Kuga is right up with the best. All models deliver a good mix of comfort and control, but the ST-Line models feel especially polished. This is a car that is light and easy to drive in town, yet flows along twisting country roads with an ease that would put many sportier cars to shame. The base Zetec trim gives you plenty of toys, including alloy wheels, four powered windows, cruise control, remote locking, air-con and a stereo with DAB, Bluetooth and voice control.

Titanium X adds full leather, powered and heated front seats, a powered tailgate and a panoramic roof. The ST-Line gets sportier styling and suspension settings, while the ST-Line Edition version adds some extra styling bits and the panoramic roof. Range-topping Vignale versions, meanwhile, get all sorts of swanky styling revisions inside and out, along with a premium sound system, upgraded leather trim, a rear-view camera and a self-parking function.

Currently, the vast majority of Kugas are powered by diesel engines, and in many respects, the 1. Buyers also have a choice of a 2. Staying safe: Coronavirus Scams Read more close icon. View gallery.
